Chief Secretary (CS) in-charge Sajal Chakraverty’s midnight inspections to curb misuse of Raen Baseras might have triggered panic among some operators but at many places the premises are still being used for purposes other than providing shelter to the homeless at night.
Chakraverty had raided six Raen Basera situated in Ranchi city on Sunday and discovered that most of them are either closed or being used by people who do not fall under BPl category — the intended beneficiaries of such a shelter.
The raid has awakened caretakers of other Raen Baseras who have cleaned the premises anticipating raid, whereas other premises, especially the one on Ratu Road which is still proudly serving food to customers, are still being used for the benefit of the caretaker.
“Mum has said to keep the premises clean. She said someone will visit the Raen Basera tonight,” said the son of caretaker of Raen Basera at New Madhukam.
Despite the acting CS’ seriousness to ensure that a Raen Basera is used for intended purpose the office is yet to issue any official order to ensure the same. According to a source, the CS’ hands are tied as he is the officiating head of the bureaucracy in the State.
“I have no idea of any order issued in this regard,” said OSD to CS Sharda Vinayak. The acting CS during surprise check had reportedly asked authorities of RMC (Ranchi Municipal Corporation) to make sure that a Raen Basera is used by those who are entitled to get benefit of it. However, the RMC claims that premises controlled by it are properly maintained and run in accordance with the rules.
“Our premises are in good shape and there is no problem found at those premises,” said RMC PRO, Naresh Kumar Sinha.
