CUJ students up in arms, demand a permanent VC

PNS

Protests erupted in the Brambe-based campus of Central University Jharkhand (CUJ) after its 22 students fell ill due to food poisoning from sub-standard food served by the in-campus mess on Tuesday night. The sick were rushed to a nearby nursing home and the serious cases were later transferred to RIMS.

Students blamed the university administration of apathy as they frantically tried to arrange transportation for the sick students. On the other hand, the contractor charged with the responsibility of

running the mess was nowhere to be found on Wednesday morning. Any action against him from the varsity administration can be confirmed either.

“We have no qualms with the administration of this institution. Our problem is the State of disarray prevailing in the university since A.N Misra was appointed as its Acting Vice Chancellor. The basic amenities are a luxury here. As there is no permanent V-C, the varsity avail aids from the Centre. This has been going on for two years now despite our continuous pleas and protests,” a student of the university told this reporter on condition of anonymity.

The students now intend to take their demands of a permanent VC to the MHRD, as told by internal sources.

Coming to know of the CUJ protests, newly-appointed SDO Aditya Kumar Anand arrived at the university campuses and assured the protesting students that their grievances will be taken to the highest authorities via an appropriate channel.

No word on the issues was received from the university administration. Attempts to contact VC A.N. Misra and Registrar A.C. Pandey were futile. Dean of Students Welfare expressed his inability to comment on the issue altogether.
