CS irked with tardy pace of ration card digitization

PNS

Chief Secretary RS Sharma has expressed his displeasure with the pace of digitisation of ration cards being done by the food supply department. The CS said that the digitisation should be completed as soon as possible and the DCs should be directed to through video conferencing to expedite the process.

The CS said that the Public Distribution System should be linked to Aadhaar number. “There should be an agreement between the Food Supply Department and UID for the same,” he said. He was addressing the meeting of the Apex Committee overseeing the computerisation of Public Distribution System.

In another meeting the CS emphasised that there was a need for constructing integrated check posts so that collection of revenue could be simplified.

He said the software prepared for the purpose should be demonstrated by next week. He also directed different departments to work on the same software so that revenue collection could be simplified.

The CS also directed the officials concerned to make the software so efficient that it could easily keep a tab in movement of trucks and transport inspector could check the trucks anytime anywhere. He said the software should also work on mobile phones.

While reviewing the MoU between government and BIT Mesra - as per which the institute gives 50 per cent reservation in admission to the students of Jharkhand - the CS said the provisions had not benefited the students of students in proportion to the expectations.

He therefore said that the money dues on government for the session 2011-12 and 2012-13 will be paid to the institute after consultation between different concerned departments.

He also suggested that the MoU be scrapped for a year. “So that we can decide on extension of MoU after assessing if it (MoU) had benefited students in anyway,” he said.
