In a bizarre incident, an arrested criminal escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi on Friday morning.
Mohammed Fadul-Ul- Farad (26), son of Mohammed Nasim of Millat Nagar in Jugsalai a warranty in criminal case who was arrested by Jugsalai police on Thursday managed to escape.
He was sent to MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi for treatment with complains of chest pain, where the attending doctor advised him for chest X-ray.
The chest X-ray was scheduled on Friday but the criminal who was accompanied by two guards from Jugsalai police station managed to escape from his bed while the guards were busy having tea.
“We are in state of shock and don’t know how he managed to escape. The criminal handcuff on the left hand was tied to his bed. But he somehow managed to free his hand from the handcuff with his right hand and seizing opportunity when the two guards had gone to enjoy a sip of tea managed to come out from the emergency unit,” said a guard on duty near the emergency unit.
Meanwhile, Jugsalai police station officer-in-charge Ashok Giri said that disciplinary action will be taken against the two police guards from his police stations deputed to guard. “It is really surprising that the escape happened from the hospital premises and disciplinary action as per law would be taken against the two guards sent on duty from our police station. However, the arrested youth was not involved in any major incident but was arrested for evading arrest warrant in petty crime of assaulting a youth in his locality several months back,” said Giri.
The hospital authorities tried to wash off their hand from the incident putting the blame on the police as the criminals was in their custody. “Yes the incident took place in our premises but the patient was under police custody and they should have watched his movement,” claimed Dr R. Y Choudhary, superintendent of the hospital.
