Ranchi Police solicited people’s help for controlling crime in city’s residential apartments. At the behest of Ranchi Police a meeting of office bearers of residential apartments’ society was called for discussing lacuna in the security arrangements made.

“The objective of the meeting was to link security guards with the Police net. Most of the guards are not aware of what to do in certain circumstances so we want to make them aware” said Rajiv Ranjan Traffic SP holding additional charge of City SP. Interestingly, agencies providing security services were also called in the meeting intended to understand recruitment process of security guards and address loopholes inherent in the process.

“We do not know how they recruit security guards for their agencies who are subsequently deputed in residential apartments and elsewhere,” said KK Jha, Gonda Police Station in-charge. Notably, the office bearers of all residential apartments of Gonda Police Station area were called with details, in a prescribed format, of security guards posted in their premises. The objective was to know about guards deputed in residential apartments, the agency they belong besides educating agencies and apartment dwellers the significance of registration of a guard.

“We will held a similar meeting with security guards in future to provide valuable inputs crucial from security point of view,” added Jha Incidentally, registration of security guard is yet to become a norm in Ranchi. However, with this initiative city Police aims to begin the process of registration and preparing security guards to deal with any eventuality. Apartment dwellers were advised to install CCTVs and other advance security system. For those who cannot afford a costly security system, it was advised to maintain register of visitors to the apartment. Similar meeting will be held for apartments falling in each Police Station in Ranchi.
