PNS

A recent crime wave has gripped Adityapur with figures showing a substantial increase in the number of attacks, thefts and loot taking place across the town. The deteriorating law and order situation in the town remains a major concern.

Two major cases of theft under Adityapur police station have been reported. A complaint of theft of ornaments and other belongings was made by Vidya Sagar Prasad Ram. Thieves decamped with the valuables from the main door of flat number 111 and flat number 147 of City Classic. In the second case of theft, a complaint was filed by Raju Bhagat about the theft of the laptop.

In a recent incident, a lone criminal snatched a purse from a young woman near Atal Park along Tata-Kandra road under Adityapur police station area on Friday morning.

The victim Kalyani Devi was returning home having left her minor son at a school nearby at about 7.30 am when the incident took place.

OC, Adityapur police station, Rajendra Prasad Mahto confirmed about the snatching incident in Adityapur on Friday morning.

This is the third incident to have taken place near Atal Park within a month and the police are not able to curb such crime, but the police have not been able to do anything except registering cases.

Significantly, all the CCTV cameras installed close to the Atal Park area have gone defunct since a couple of months.

It has often been observed that burglars keep a watch to fix their 'target' in a housing colony or society before committing crimes. People whose movements were found to be suspicious should be placed under watch.

Housing societies, too, have been suggested to keep a sort of 'neighbourhood watch', said an official. Among other measures, he said, records of robbers and burglars were being studied and a list of habitual offenders being narrowed down.

In the past one week, at least seven cases of burglary have been reported in the town. It may be noted that incidents of thefts, burglary, loot and snatching have increased in the last few months. Only in February, about 20 cases of theft and burglary have been reported in and around the town. Moreover, administration has also stepped up checking of those entering the city from other parts of the district in a bid to prevent the coronavirus spread too. According to officials, only those carrying a valid movement

ID of their workplace in the district and involved in the supply of essential services are being allowed to enter from all different entry points.
