CREST-2016 at SAIl concludes

PNS

A two-day technology workshop on ‘Current and Emerging Technologies in Steel and Refractory (CREST 2016)’ organised at RDCIS, SAIl, concluded on Friday. Senior experts from 9 Industries which includes SAIl, RINl, JSPl, Tata Steel, JSW, MECON, academia of IIT, JU, NIT, NIFFT along with experts from SMS India, Nippon Steel and Sumkin Engineering, TRl Kroasaki, National-Vantage Refractory were present during the occasion.

In valedictory session roadmap for the steelmaking and refractory segment was evolved based on the presentation made by the technology providers and discussions on the potential of these technologies to reduce the cost, improve the operational efficiency of the processes and improve the quality.

Dr. BK Jha ED I/C (RDCIS), Neeraj Mathur, ED CET, Professor PP Chattopadhyay Director NIFFT, Dr. AK Chattopadhyay, MD national-Vantage Refractory and Dr. R Datta including Chairman of the Organising Committee graced the occasion during panel discussion.

Jha appreciated the effort for formulation of roadmap for the steelmaking and refractory segment with new generation product and process technology by the technology providers such as KR process of hot metal desulphurization, plasma heating in tundish, induction stirring in ladle and new refractory raw materials, new product design and its application. The potential of these technologies are to reduce the cost, improve the operational efficiency of the processes and improve the quality.

Mathur further stressed on proper management system of execution of project without escalation. Professor Chattopadhyay pointed the growth and use of resources available with joint work by academia and industry and research organization. Dr. Chattopadhyay emphasized beneficiation of huge raw materials available in India along with engineering aspects of to be taken care of to reduce imports.

Dr. R Datta narrated the change expected of Rs. 70000 crores invested by SAIl in technology with modern facilities for reduction of cost of product, quality compliance and to be in business with as per technologies with competitors.

The Workshop was concluded with proposal to prepare a roadmap document with various technologies available with current and future perspective in relation with steel and refractory based on cost effectiveness, adoptability, acceptability by users and environment friendly with low carbon emission.
