Signifying for the need of a crime-free society, Supreme Court Judge and Executive Chairman of National legal Services Authority (NAlSA), Justice AR Dave urged people to encourage rich culture of the country which will keep a person away from getting into wrong direction. He also stressed on to create society with moral values.

“Its’ not so easy but not impossible too, given the diversity shaping the human personality and their thoughts. Our efforts can minimise crimes,” he added.

Dave was speaking in a workshop on “Victim Compensation Scheme” organised by The District legal Service Authority Bokaro under the aegis of Jharkhand State legal Services Authority (JHAlSA) Ranchi.

Stressing on the greater role of society and compensation in rehabilitation of victims thus helping the victim to return to the normal life, Dave praised the state government’s steps towards implementing the scheme under criminal justice system.

Though, money cannot compensate the sufferings of a victim but it plays an important role in rehabilitation, Justice Dave said. Quoting “Manu Smriti” he stated that it is the liability of the accused to compensate the victim. Victim is a part of society and it is the responsibility of the society to compensate him.

Criminal behaviour is related to the socio-cultural organisation of the given society as crimes are related to collective life. So it’s the duty of the society to see that victims are suitably compensated, he said.

“I personally feel that society should do something for victims and must be compensated,” he said.

After State capital Ranchi, Bokaro became the second district where this scheme has been launched. Eight victims of heinous crimes were provided succor through financial assistance under the Victim Compensation Scheme at Bokaro on Sunday.
