Ranchi police is likely to crackdown on vehicles registered outside Jharkhand and plying in the State by flouting the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The proposed drive is aimed at controlling vehicle theft and above all paving the way for e-chalan system in Ranchi. The MV act mandates a vehicle owner to re-register vehicles in the state where the owner moves with vehicle however the rule could not move beyond the realm of codes.
"We would request the District Transport Officer of Ranchi to help us in this regard and conduct a special drive to identify such vehicles. This will help in the identification of stolen vehicles moving around in the city. We want those vehicles to change their number plate to that of Jharkhand," said Traffic SP Karthik S.As per the norms of transferring vehicles, owners need to transfer the vehicle by obtaining no-objection certificate from the Regional Transport Office where a vehicle is originally registered followed by seeking a transfer request and then applying with complete documents for fresh registration in the state where the owner wants to use his vehicle.
"A traffic constable will take print outs of challan on the spot and will hand over to a person. The challan would be paid into our account and we have linked that to the payment gateway of Jharkhand government. Anyone who will be issued challan can pay it from their home," added the Traffic SP.Incidentally, the Traffic SP claimed that the Parivartan drive brought good results.
