Covid-19: Vigilance to step up at railway station and bus stands

PNS

Passengers of all trains coming from outside the state will be subjected to Covid-19 tests at Tatanagar railway station. Following fresh instructions from the Government, the district administration has decided to step up vigilance at the entry points to the district.

According to officials, mushrooming outbreaks of the Delta variant prompted them to impose stricter COVID-19 curbs.

Officials of Tatanagar railway station informed that the situation is being constantly monitored and coordinated at all levels. Desks have been set up all over the railway system and the staff has been sensitized and educated about the subject.

Volunteers are being deputed along with the help desk so that the workers do not face any problem. In view of the convenience and safety of passengers, adequate amounts of face masks, hand sanitizers and other materials will also be made available in all buses. An official said that the COVID-19 variant B.1.617.2 or the Delta variant that caused havoc is still the variant of concern and if COVID protocols are not followed, it can still hit back in the form of a third wave.

“The random tests at public places or areas of arrival will help to identify the patient so that they can be quarantined to stop further spread.  People are not taking the virus seriously. Markets are flooded with people.   If the people continue to evade following the norms of maintaining social distance and wearing masks, then the number of Covid cases may increase further," said AK Lal, civil surgeon.
