The Covid-19 cases in the State are becoming scary as the positivity rate has gone up by 30 per cent. On Wednesday, the State recorded 3553 fresh cases, which is highest after seven months. The surge in corona cases can be gauged from the fact that 10 day back on December 10, there was zero cases in 13 districts of State, but now the infection has reached all districts. In most districts of the State the number of fresh cases is in double digit. The State's positivity rate has increased by 20.43 times in the last 10 days.Earlier, on an average 32,000 samples were tested. On Wednesday, 63,000 samples were tested at the same time the number of patients was also much higher.
The increase in cases can be gauged from the fact that 15 days ago, the active cases in the State were 160, which have now increased to 10,990. Ranchi has the highest number of 1316 patients found on Wednesday. Now the infection rate here has reached 13.13 per cent. At the same time, the maximum numbers of 658 cases were found in East Singhbhum after seven months. On Wednesday, 244 people recovered from infection. This time again a large number of health workers are coming under the grip of corona. Till Wednesday, 111 doctors in Ranchi were found infected with the virus. Of these, 71 are from RIMS only. Apart from this, there are doctors from 25 private hospitals. Apart from this, 10 para medical staff of RIMS, 35 nurses, 40 health workers of Sadar Hospital Ranchi, PHC, CHC have also been infected.In the past one week four persons have died due to infection which includes two from East Singhbhum and one each from Ranchi and Dhanbad respectively. The Government as precautionary measures is also planning to convert Sadar hospital in Ranchi as Covid hospital. This decision is being taken regarding the increasing case of corona virus in the city. The hospital management is taking concrete steps so that the corona patients do not face any problem in Sadar Hospital. With the surge in cases, the Jharkhand Government has imposed restrictions in the wake of a sharp spike in Covid cases due to Omicron. All stadiums, parks, gyms, swimming pools, and tourist destinations will remain closed till further order.
A maximum of 100 people are allowed in gatherings for weddings and funerals. Markets will be shut down at 8 pm. Chemist shops, restaurants and bars are allowed to remain open. The Government restrictions are adversely affecting different sectors. With the imposition of fresh curbs and ban on entry of visitors in the tourist spots, different travel agencies across the district experience massive cancellation of their advance bookings across prominent tourist sites of the state. Sources said that the government imposing fresh curbs will hit the annual earnings of the travel agencies for the second consecutive year.
