In view of rising cases of crime in the city, district police have decided to keep an eye on movements of habitual offenders and notorious criminals starting from January next year.

The district administration has released a list of 38 notorious criminals against whom Jharkhand Crime Control Act (2002) has been slapped in the district and from January 8, 2016 the criminals in the list will have to report daily to the office of the city SP Chandan Jha and inform about their whereabouts till April 7, 2016.

The deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said that the step is being taken as part of effort on the part of police for keeping a tab on the habitual offenders. Those whose name has been listed under provision of the Jharkhand Crime Control Act (2002) will have to report daily to the city SP from January 8, 2016. This apart they would have to submit a bond of `10,000 with two sureties with the city SP till January 7, 2016,”

“We want the criminals to strictly follow the orders. If they fail to comply with any one of the desired actions it would land them in jail for a maximum period of one year without bail. The provisions of Jharkhand crime control act 2002 are slapped by us to detain notorious criminals on a report of the SP to maintain peace and order and remove the feeling of insecurity among public” noted the senior official.

The process of identifying the criminals to bring them under provision of Jharkhand Crime Control Act begun just before Durga Puja and was completed after approval of state home department.

East Singhbhum SSP Anoop T Mathew said that district police has also identified around 41 notorious criminals and has initiated process for bringing them also under provision of Jharkhand Crime Control Act.

The district police are witnessing some of the testing times with the New Year about to begin. While the deteriorating law and order situation in the city remains major concern, the city has witnessed several cases of suicides. Police have launched an intensive arms checking drive on the streets to tackle crime but they seem to have overlooked the movement of various gangs which are roaming free and giving shape to criminal incidents with gay abandon.
