A day after firing in Kusum Vihar in Morhabadi the Bariatu police is in pursuit of another 10 to 15 men allegedly said to be the main accused in the case and agent provocateurs to rest the case once and for all.
The incident happened after two groups clashed over a piece of land however it once again raised questions about preparedness of the police to deal with the nature of the crime. “We suspect that there are white collar people behind the incident. So we are trying to nab them as well,” said Bariatu PS in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh.
The incident happened on July 5 afternoon when two groups clashed over settlement of piece of land leading firing and brawl which left three people injured. About eight persons were arrested following the incident.Significantly, in a meeting conducted by DGP Rajeev Kumar on July 2, the DGP has asked district police to gear up to the challenge posed by organized crime of killings over land disputes however there is little progress in the direction. The intensity behind killings has remained the same.
The DGP had instructed police officials of the district to settle disputes in the police stations however the proposal has the biggest challenge of encouraging people to report the matter to the police for settlement of disputes. Also, police personnel expressed helplessness in the matter due to non-availability of land documents.
Recently killings related to land disputes were reported from Chutia, Hatia and Pandra which had evoked strong reactions forcing the police to go defensive about the issue and strive for addressing the problems in a holistic manner.“People do not approach police stations to solve the matter. It is the interest to solve the matter through might which results in killings. So we have requested our seniors to seek solution to the disputes from CO or DClR office,” pointed out Singh.
