Under fire, Ranchi police propose CID probe
The Ranchi police on Monday interrogated Urban Development Minister Suresh Paswan in a bid to get to the bottom of the serious allegations of torture, forceful conversion, unlawful confinement and concealment of identity leveled by national shooter Tara Shahdeo against her estranged husband Ranjeet Singh Kohli alias Raquibul Hassan.
The investigating officers, who interrogated the Minister at the Assembly premises, also wanted to know the racket run by Kohli in connivance with the bureaucrats, police, politicians and judicial officers. However, they refused to divulge the details of the interrogation. The Ranchi police are likely to quiz Minister Haji Hussain Ansari on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Ranchi police on Monday shot off a letter to DGP Rajiv Kumar with a recommendation to hand over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
"As the credibility of the State police itself was being questioned, after a thorough discussion with SSP Prabhat Kumar we have recommended DGP Rajiv Kumar to get all the cases related to Tara Shahdeo investigated by the CID until it is taken over by the CBI," said DIG Praveen Kumar.
"In a letter written to the DGP, we have requested him to hand over the case to the highest independent investigating agency in the State," added the DIG.
The Opposition as well as Tara has repeatedly been expressing serious doubts over getting justice from the State police in the present circumstances and had demanded a CBI inquiry into the case. Writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tara had also requested to intervene in the matter and get the case investigated by an independent probe agency.
Tara, calling her husband a big shot who plays with the law at his will, has also been alleging that the State police in order to manage the things and remove evidences against him, gave Kohli adequate time and arrested a week after the FIR was lodged at the Hindpiri police station.
Meanwhile, according to a private TV channel report, Ranchi police is said to have succeeded in obtaining permission from the Patna High Court to quiz Sherghati SDJM Rajesh Kumar.
The DIG, however, expressed his inability to confirm the HC permission granted to the Ranchi police to grill Sherghati SDJM Rajesh Kumar.
