Garhwa Superintendent of Police Shrikant Suresh Rao Khotre on Saturday celebrated the festival of lights with  the primitive tribal families rescued from the clutches of the Maoists at Buddha Pahad. These tribal families are lodged in Government building at Madgadi under Bhandariya police limit after being freed from the Maoists in 2018 during operation Budha Pahad launched by the police.

The diwali celebrations was also joined by SDPO Ranka Manoj Mahto, officer in charge of Bhandariya, Krishna Kumar and others policemen.

Around hundred members of 35 families, rehabilitated from the Jhala Dera and other villages located on Buddha Pahad, had no lamps to celebrate Diwali on Saturday. Suddenly, the villagers were very happy to see the police party between them to celebrate Diwali, said SDPO Ranka Manoj Mahto.

For decades, celebrating Diwali was a challenge due to the fear of rebels and financial constraints for these families.

Police distributed sweets, lamp-oil, sports material and study material among the villagers and wished them on Diwali. Police also lit lamps with them.

It is an attempt by the police to ensure that the rehabilitated people also celebrate Diwali and share their happiness, the SP said, adding it is also effort to bridge the gap in between public and police.
