The ongoing tussle among the top officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) took an ugly turn when a contractor was allegedly arrested with a hidden camera for his attempt to do a sting on Mayor Asha lakra.
The contractor, SK Verma was nabbed at the Mayor’s Deen Dayal Nagar residence on Friday. According to sources, Verma had gone there with an intention to conduct a sting operation on lakra at her house during the hushed hours of the day.
Verma, who was accompanied by a few other unknown people came to visit lakra at her residence at 3.30 pm with a hidden pen camera and insisted the bodyguards present there that he wanted to meet the Mayor to discuss some important agenda. looking at the suspicious activities of the visitor, the Mayor’s bodyguards first questioned him sternly. Meanwhile, during the conversation, a party worker noticed the hidden camera.
Verma then was immediately nabbed by the bodyguards and other party workers present at the Mayor’s house. He at present is in police custody and is being interrogated. The entire episode occurred when the Mayor was present inside her residence for lunch.
Terming the episode a big conspiracy, lakra said that she had never interacted with the contractor earlier. She confirmed that Verma has been working on a sewerage drainage project and even left the project half–way without citing a valid reason for this. lakra also mentioned that without any powerful backup or any muscle power support, it is simply unacceptable that any ordinary person will show the fortitude to conduct a sting operation at Mayor’s residence.
“This is shocking, I was fortunate that the culprit was nabbed immediately by the bodyguards and other people. I am very sure that this was a pre-planned thing and was done under the powerful people back up. Somehow, some parts of the hidden camera came in the hands of a bodyguard. I was informed by my helper that the man was trying to even enter inside the house despite several attempts to stop him at the gate,” lakra added.
