The Congress on Monday organised a dharna against series of deaths taken place recently in different parts of the State allegedly due to starvation and demanded resignation of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy.

The dharna organised at Birsa Chowk here on Monday on the instructions of Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat saw senior leaders and office bearers of the PCC taking part. The leaders were outrageous against deaths of Santoshi Kumari of Simdega and Baidhayanath Das of Jharia out of hunger, said to have taken place out of hunger.

“It is unfortunate that people are dying out of starvation in this 21st century and the Government instead of finding solutions is looking for excuses. Just passing fresh instructions would not save Minister Saryu Roy from his responsibilities. The Raghubar Das Government is providing full protection to the ration mafias and dealers which have are collectively led to this situation,” said PCC general secretary Alok Kumar Dubey.

The party also cited deaths of children taken place in the want of medicines in the past and hooch killing poor on different occasions. “The Chief Minister alleges the Congress for doing politics over these issues. We want to ask from the CM what should a party like Congress do in such a situationIJ Can we keep mum and allow the Government to run amok in this fashion,” asked the leader.

The party also decided to take the fight forward in the days to come. AICC general secretary and in-charge of the party affairs in Jharkhand RPN Singh would also join the agitation on Tuesday along with Sukhdeo Bhagat.

“The Congress is not going to rest here and the agitation would grow in different parts of the State. The Government should be ashamed of itself for organising celebrations and spending crores without any reasons while poor people are left to their own fate. We would organise protests as per the directions of the high command all over the State,” added Dubey.
