Cong raps Das Govt for ad blitz

The Congress has pulled up the Government for celebrating its 1000 days’ stay in the office and using its machinery and media to propagate the feat.

Top leaders of the party, including Pradesh Congress committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat and ClP leader Alamgir Alam staged a dharna on Friday before Mahatma Gandhi statue to highlight the plight of farmers, tribal and minorities.

The sit-in was also coincided with BJP national president Amit Shah’s arrival in Ranchi to take part in the official celebrations. “Governments are run through democracy but this Government is being run through publicity. Chief Minister is not running a circus and not a Government. It is cheering its stint and silent on children deaths taking place in hospitals, farmers’ suicides and hooch deaths. It should have been a matter of shame,” said the State Congress president.

He went on equating the tenure with ‘Ravan Raj’ while recalling promises made about ‘acche din’ or better days for the common people. “If there is an iota of morality in Amit Shah he should have first visited families of the farmers who have committed suicides and to those whose children have died in hospitals,” said Sukhdeo Bhagat taking a jibe on the BJP chief’s plan to visit tribal families over lunch.

ClP leader Alamgir Alam equated the celebration with any other Government programme with no public participation. “Huge public money is being spent in organising the programmes in which the common man has no interest at all. This Government as well as its action is anti-people,” said Alam.

Also present on the occasion was former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay along with former MlAs Sarfaraz Ahmed, Banna Gupa, KN Tripathi, Mannan Malick, Chadrashekhar Dubey, Geeta Shree Oraon and AICC spokesperson Ajoy Kumar.

The leaders while taking a pledge to uproot the Government counted on issues like forceful land acquisitions, killing of land owners in police firings, deteriorating law and order situation, unemployment, health scenario, inflation etc and termed the Government as complete failure.

The programme is a starter before the party going to tour the State and “expose” the tall claims made by the BJP before coming to power. “After September 22 when their propaganda ends, we would visit villages of the State and know from the people about ‘acche din’ which they had promised to bring once the opportunity is given. Our aim to find whether any of those promises made has been fulfilled,” said Ajoy Kumar.
