Rejuvenating party cadres ahead of year-end Assembly election, the State Congress leadership has planned State-wide demonstration protesting against the poor medical facilities. The State Congress on July 6, will hold demonstration in front of Civil Surgeons office protesting the poor medical facilities.
State Congress president Ajoy Kumar said, “All active Congress members wearing black badges, party flags and placards will took out a march against State Government’s negligence to improve health condition in State. The Congress workers will later submit a memorandum to respective Civil Surgeons (CS).”
Kumar further said that the memorandum submitted to the CS will consist of slew of demands for improving medical facilities at Government run hospital and medical colleges. The State Congress president claimed that if the State Government fails to address their demands they will intensify their agitation in future.
Echoing the views of Kumar, State Congress Committee spokesperson, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said, “The present government lacks the immediate policy, mechanism to tackle with any emergency situation. The condition of Government hospitals and State medical colleges is poor. The government hospitals and medical colleges suffer from acute shortage of staffs.” The Congress leader claimed that last year in the same season, many malnourished children died due to poor medical treatment.
According to Congress leadership the State medical colleges, Government hospitals and Primary Health Centres have shortage of doctors and para medics’ staff. Chances of people especially children falling ill due to water logging and unhygienic conditions is high in these seasons. “Last year many people were affected due to dengue and chikungunya. This year too there is chances of spread of such diseases as civic bodies have failed to lift garbage from different locations,” said Prasad.
Sources said State Congress demonstration against poor health conditions is to energize party workers ahead of Assembly elections, after party’s debacle in Lok Sabha elections. In Lok Sabha election, the Congress forming an alliance (Mahagathbandhan) with four parties contested against NDA. The Congress had contested seven seats, but the party managed to win only Singhbhum seat. Sources said that even in Singhbhum, the charisma of Congress candidate Geeta Koda played major role than Congress workers ground work in ensuring her victory.
Sources said that apart from Congress poor show in Lok Sabha elections infighting within State Congress is also cause of concern for State leadership. By holding State-wide demonstration against the State Government, the Congress wants to give a message of unity among party cadres and workers.
