Koderma District Congress Committee (KDCC) President Shankar Yadav died on Tuesday after his SUV was blown up in a bomb blast by some unidentified persons at Dhab Tham area under Chandwara police station in Koderma. Police said that the blast was so intense that the SUV was torn  apart into pieces and flew away to several meters leaving his body dilapidated.

Notably, Yadav had been attacked three months back by two unidentified bike-ridden persons at the same place but survived the injuries after admitted in a hospital for several weeks.

“Yadav, 51, died on the spot while his body guard Dharmendra Yadav succumbed to injuries on way to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi,” said Koderma SP Shivani Tewari. His driver Krishna Yadav could not sustain his injuries and died at Sadar Hospital in Koderma, she added.

The SP further said that prima facie it appeared that the explosives were planted in an auto rickshaw waiting on the spot and was blown up while Yadav was crossing there.

“Forensic Science laboratory team from Ranchi has been called and are expected to reach by tomorrow morning following which the modus operandi of the blast could be revealed,” said the SP.

According to Police, the incident took place at around 5 pm in the evening while Yadav, along with his driver and body guard, was going towards mines in Dhab Tham stone mines, owned by Yadav.

land dispute related to his stone mines was said to be the reason behind the killing, while the SP has ordered a probe in this regard.

Jharkhand State Congress Committee president Ajoy Kumar expressing condolences on the death of Yadav and his aides said that the incident proves failure of the district and State administration as he had been attacked three months back also.

“The incident has proved that the law and order situation has completely broken down and there is a kind of jungle raj in the State,” said Kumar. The incident also proves that the criminals have been roaming around without any fear and the State Government has no control over them, he added.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, criticising the brutal killing of Yadav, also said that there have been murders of several political leaders in the State during the last few months as intelligence machinery has completely failed in the State.

“Given the fact that Yadav had also been attacked three months back, yet the police still did not act in this regard, was really unfortunate,” said JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya. It was a great challenge for the intelligence machinery of the State police, he added.
