The District Congress on Friday criticised the BJP-led State Government for raising Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, and impositionof Rs1 cess per litre on fuel. A delegation of Congress party led by senior Congress leader SRA Rizwi Chabban presented a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner being addressed to the Governor.
Chabban said that the decision to hike VAT on petrol and diesel is anti-people and inflationary. He said that the decision will have a negative effect on the prices of essential commodities and will be a blow to the people. Chabban said that instead of bringing the promise of ‘achche din’, the BJP Government is making playing with the feelings of the people.
The memorandum demanded an immediate roll-back of the hike. He said the hike would put additional burden on the people of the State, despite the fact that there has been a decline in the prices of petroleum products in the international market.
later, talking to the newsmen, the Congress leader said that the party was disappointed by the budget, as it was expecting reduction in rail fare.
