If you are a smart phone user, your wait at the Ranchi Railway station for boarding any train will no longer be dreary!

After initiating one of the most awaited services of wi-fi facility with the assistance of Google and RailTel (Railway Telecom service), the commuters at Ranchi Railway station seem to be enjoying the designated internet service without any interruptions. With smart phone in hands, denizens falling in different age groups and who are presently aware about the internet facility at railway station looked satisfied with the speed and connectivity of Rail Wire service.

Started on trial basis, the facility has yet not been formally inaugurated by the authorities concern. Yet, people who aware about it are using the fast internet service for free. “I have to board train at 1:30 PM and after reaching station I just noticed that my internet pack has got over but fortunately when I switched to WlAN network Rail Wire network appeared and now I can enjoy free internet accessibility here at the station,” said, Neeti Agarwal with a smile who was waiting to board Babadham Express.

Similarly, another passenger, Ramesh Dwivedi who was waiting for Jharsuguda Passenger train, said, “I came to know about the Wi-Fi services few days back after reading newspaper articles. However, those unaware about the facility would not be able to use the service as nothing such has been mentioned inside or outside the railway station about free Wi-Fi zone.”

Notably, with the enhanment of information and communication technology (ICT), the major challenge for the railway is to protect the service from being misused and to disseminate information on wider scale to provide benefits to the people.

“The department is working on various facets to prevent its misuse. Google and RailTel are drafting the proposal for it. As far as, publicity is concerned, the work has been given to private agencies to put posters at major locations. After the formal inauguration of internet services things at railway station will be sorted,” informed, Senior DCM, Neeraj Kumar.

The service built over the fiber network of RailTel is designed to offer high-speed broadband experience to users. Travelers’ passing through the station will be able to easily stream a high-definition video, search their destination, download a book, game for the journey or just similarly browse as per their convenience.

Mumbai Central was the first station to become a Wi-Fi zone in January, earlier this year. Apart Ranchi station, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda, Ernakulum and Visakhapatnam railway stations too will soon be transformed into Wi-Fi zone. The project is likely to include Hatia and Tatanagar in coming days.
