The Metallurgical and Engineering Consultants (MECON) ltd has successfully commissioned Coke Oven Battery No. 2 of Durgapur Steel Plant (SAIl) on December 2, 2013. The battery will produce 0.5 million tonnes of gross coke per annum. The Battery is equipped with modern technology including Spring loaded leak Proof Doors, both sides Gas Collecting Mains, Waste Gas Recirculation System, High Pressure liquor Aspiration System, Water Sealed AP lids etc. to meet the pollution control norms.
Battery No. 2 of DSP is twenty fourth battery in row designed & commissioned by MECON starting from 1977 when first MECON designed battery was commissioned.
The year 2013 has been a remarkable year as three Coke Oven batteries have been commissioned by MECON -- SAIl-Rourkela Steel Plant, Coke Oven Battery #6 (7 M tall oven executed on EPC basis), SAIl-ISP, Burnpur Coke Oven Battery #11 with CDQ (7M tall oven executed under MECON’s consultancy & Project Management) and SAIl-Durgapur Steel Plant Battery #2 (4.45 M Tall oven executed under MECON’s Consultancy, Detail Engineering, Supervision, Heating-Up & Commissioning).
