PNS

Six teams of elite force CoBRA and twelve teams of Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) to patrol and keep vigil on the borders lying with the Panki assembly constituency. They will man the borders in Manatu in this constituency while jungles of latehar will be scoured by the two also. The border strip and the jungles of latehar are hypersensitive from the view of extremism. Sources said a total of 24 companies of CRPF have been deployed for the Panki bypoll. Out of 24 companies 18 companies of CRPF have moved in here from other districts in Jharkhand. These 18 companies of CRPF will man the polling stations. One company of the remaining six which is based in Palamu will man the Strong Room. IG (Operations) CRPF Sanjay latekar’s recent visit to CRPF camp here came as a shot in the arm of the CRPF here. latekar, who was DIG in Pune, after his promotion reached Jharkhand as IG (Ops) and took time off to reach Daltonganj to sit and talk to his officials here for the May 16 by poll in Panki. Sources said latekar had emphatically asked the cops to trust their legs more to any vehicle. Move on foot and avoid vehicle was the safety mantra of this IG to the cops and the officials. Inside and outside of polling booths too were on the safety radar of this IG said sources. Four to five kilometer of stretch of road leading to polling booths is to be sanitised to unearth improvised explosive devices. Sources said the Maoists have no qualms as they had planted IEDs in the cemented floor of a Government school in latehar district in the past election after scrapping the plaster of the floor. However, an alert CRPF there noticed it and aborted the design of the Maoists. latekar wanted an ambience of total safety in and around the booth said sources. Commandant of 134 battalion of CRPF, SK linda told The Pioneer ‘Our IG took note of every aspect of safety and security of all drafted for this bypoll in Panki’. However linda was most candid when asked if CRPF companies are being provided with basic facilities like toilets/drinking water etc to which linda said the number of toilets meant for the CRPF is too inadequate and insufficient. He said five toilets are needed for one company of security force. Here it is two toilet for a company. Will this be called any convenient oneIJ linda quipped. He said ‘There can be no room for any shortfall of facility for CRPF especially in the matter of toilets as it is most important to one and all’.
