CMC to intensify tax collection

Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC) is preparing to come down heavily on major defaulters of holding tax.

“We will serve notice to major defaulters of holding tax during the current financial year,” said Vikash Ranjan City Manager CMC.

A large number of people had paid holding tax  voluntarily, but owners of some major business houses, showrooms and office complexes are yet to pay their dues, he said.

Out of 23,396 premises of CMC, it is yet to collect holding taxes from 3444 premises creating and estimated revenue loss or Rs 50 lakhs annually, said an official.

A CMC official said, as per the notification, buildings were assessed under two categories — residential building or premises on rent. Following the notification, the CMC tax collectors were given special mobilisation and assessment training to boost the holding tax collection.

“We have urged the residents to deposit their taxes by the end of the March this year anyhow,” said Ranjan.
