Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday urged the residents of Jharkhand to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and avoid complacency at this stage. Claiming that the second wave of Covid-19 has already hit the tribal state, Soren said that taking precautionary measures was the only way to avoid transmission and save lives.
Soren was at Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspecialty Hospital on Sunday to offer his condolences to the family of former Jamtara MLA Vishnu Bhaiya. The Chief Minister offered all possible support from the government to the bereaved family. “I was connected to Visnhu ji politically as well as personally. He will always be missed,” said Soren.
Interacting with media persons at Medica Hospital, Soren urged all residents above the age of 45 years in the state to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Apart from taking precautionary measures, getting vaccinated on time was the key to defeating this mysterious virus, which is now changing its form and infecting people, Soren said.
“The count of Covid cases has increased at an alarming pace in our state. There is no way to tackle this menace other than taking necessary precautions and getting vaccinated on time,” said the CM, seeking the support of commoners to combat the second wave of the virus. In the wake of the rising cases of Covid-19 infection, the government has enforced stricter restrictions in some parts of the state. While Covid tests for all travellers coming to Ranchi by air has been made mandatory, all district administrations have been asked to run extensive drives against people not wearing facemasks in public.
With the active caseload in the state shooting up from below 500 in the first week of March to over 4600 in April, the government is also working on increasing the count of dedicated Covid beds across the state. Ranchi, as per government records, accounts for more than 50 per cent of the total active cases of infection in Jharkhand.
