The much-awaited construction work of the third bridge over Subernarekha river would start from tomorrow. The Chief Minister Raghubar Das on March 13 would lay foundation stone of the bridge to be named as ‘Domuhani Bridge’.

The project assumes significance as the commissioning of the bridge by December 2017 would reduce to load of heavy traffic on city roads and in the process reduce traffic congestion and road mishaps on city arteries and also reduce travel time from Jamshedpur to Ranchi by nearly 40 minutes.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said that the Chief Minister Raghubar Das would be laying the foundation stone of the bridge.

“It is a very important project as far as infrastructure development is concerned. The construction work of the bridge would be undertaken by the State road construction department district division. We have completed all the ground work for the foundation stone laying of this important third bridge over the Subernarekha river in the district,” said Kaushal.

The construction work of the Rs41-crore Domuhani bridge (named after Domuhani — the confluence of Subernarekha and Kharkai river) would link Sonari in East Singhbhum district with Kanderbera (in Chandil block) of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

“The contract for construction work of the bridge has been handed to Kolkata-based firm M/s Royal Infratech Private limited on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode for faster execution of the project (under EPC mode the government unit will construct the road with help from private party in terms of engineering and construction expertise and procurement of raw materials),” said executive engineer road construction East Singhbhum division, Sanjay Singh.

The 252-meter long four-lane bridge (dual-carriageway) with each carriageway of nearly 8.5 meters and pedestrian pathway on each flanks of 1.5 meters will  have the  Sonari side of the proposed bridge reaching out to Swarn Vihar and the Chandil side will connect to a village called Dobo. From Dobo, an approach road (nearly 6 km) will be constructed which would will lead to Kanderbera(near Chandil) and then meet NH-33.

After the construction of the new bridge, the commuters would use the Kandra-Chandil bridge for having a easy ride to reach Jamshedpur from Chandil or Ranchi.
