Expressing anguish over backwardness in Santhal Pargana division, the largest among five in the State, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday gifted schemes worth Rs 126 crore to the region. He also assured that his home constituency Dumka would be developed as a model district.

“Santhal Pargana has not developed as per the expectations. I want that headquarters Dumka be developed as a model town. Rural and urban roads would be improved and various doors of development would be opened in the area. Construction of eight kilometers long bypass at the cost of Rs 12-14 crore would be started in 10 to 15 days,” said the CM while addressing ‘Vikas Mela’ at Dumka. The CM is on two-day visit of the area.

While inaugurating the scheme on line, the Chief Minister stated that the State had a long way to go and it was a challenge for his Government. He also disbursed loan of Rs 35 crore among the beneficiaries. “There should be no politics on the issue of development. We have to fine-tune the schemes so that no difficulty is faced during their implementation. Many people do not even know about the schemes running in their district,” said Soren and appealed the officials to make the beneficiaries aware about those. He also added that several schemes were in the pipeline that would be brought on the ground after building consensus.

The CM stressed on empowering panchyat system and giving rights to the elected representatives. Minister Simon Marandi was also present on the occasion. After the programme the Chief Minister also paid visit to Basukinath temple and inspected Shrawani mela.
