In a meeting with secretaries from various departments, Chief Minister Raghubar Das approved the formation of Jharkhand Building Construction Corporation on Friday.
This Corporation, when formed will be responsible for constructing State-owned buildings with estimated costs up to 50 lakh rupees or more.
“Building Construction Corporation will be formed so that projects are not delayed and construction work is completed on time. Delays in construction drive up the expenses involved in it. Formation of this Corporation will aid in ensuring that construction works for state-run projects are timely completed and the quality of work done will also improve,” said Das.
He further added, “Only when construction work for a project is completed on time, the intention behind the project can be truly realised. For this, the Building Construction Department also needs to be strengthened.”
This concept behind the Corporation was presented during the meeting by the Building Construction Department.
“The idea behind the Corporation is to ensure that government construction work is carried out in a professional manner. The Board of Directors heading it will be able to take certain decisions on their own in matters under their purview, despite complying with the government norms, without going through the channel that usually has to be followed. This will definitely speed up the work,” said Building Construction Secretary KK Soan.
He further added, “Secondly, in future, we will be providing other services apart from construction projects. We will provide consultancy to other agencies related to construction projects, as in neighbouring states.”
CM Das said, “The Building Construction Corporation will be equipped with modern technologies, required human resources and technical know-how. It will be developed purely as a technical agency. It will be registered as a state-owned company. All Departmental Secretaries should prepare a list of new construction to be done by their department; these will be taken up by the Corporation.”
Secretaries from other departments also look forward to the formation of this Corporation.
“This will be a right step ahead in direction of building projects conducted by State Government. As far as information technology is concerned, we will be able to utilise this corporation to erect IT parks or other infrastructure to promote information technology in state. The advantages of this Corporation can be many in the coming future,” stated IT Secretary Sunil Barnwal.
