Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand Police has taken-up investigation of threatening sent to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren via e-mail as top sources in the police department confided that they are trying to track IP addresses which were used to send e-mail to official mail ID of Chief Minister.

Sources in police said that the FIR was lodged on July 13 right after staffs of CM secretariat who handle official mail ID of Chief Minister discovered two threat mails.

“Threat mails were sent via two different mail IDs. Text is written in Roman script but after analysing contest and selection of words we are absolutely clear that the sender is one who used two different email IDs. Very soon we will track the sender and device used in the crime,” said a senior official of Jharkhand Police.

In the mail the sender has threatened to kill CM if he doesn’t mend his ways. But sources did not disclose as to whether the sender has written anything specific other than he intends to kill CM saying they have been asked to maintain confidentiality.

On the instruction of ADG (CID) Anil Palta; a special team has been formed to investigate the case lodged at the Cyber Police station of the city capital. The FIR has been lodged under various sections of Indian Penal Code besides Information Technology Act.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure the security of the chief minister has been enhanced, who has a Z plus security cover. The police department is trying to ascertain whether this is a hoax-mail; a handiwork of some miscreants.

However, this is not a new incident where a serving chief minister was threatened this way.

In December 2015, ahead of Rajrappa (Ramgarh) visit of then chief minister Raghubar Das; a person sent an SMS to Ramgarh police where he threatened to kill Das.

Two accused was arrested later on.

In March 2016, Jharkhand Police received a series of letters where the sender threatened to bomb the Raj Bhavan; official residence of the Governor besides houses of other dignitaries and installations.

Sender had identified himself as Ravindra Verma; a native of Barmasia of Giridih district and he also claimed to be a top rebel of CPI (Maoist). Police probe later on concluded that it could be handiwork of some miscreants.

Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi also received one such threat letter in April last year.

But the subsequent investigation revealed that the sender Avinash Kumar Sinha, claiming to be an advocate and a member of a left wing extremist outfit, was mentally ill.
