It’s a matter of great pride for the State that Ranchi’s 20- year old Samarpana Singh was crowned as Miss Tourism Worldwide Glamour at a beauty pageant held in Singapore in September. The aspiring model represented India at an international platform Miss Worldwide tourism for the first time.
“I was nervous yet excited to have got this opportunity of representing India at such a huge platform. This was the first time I was presenting my country at an international level and it was once in a lifetime kind of feeling. It was not only a matter of pride for me but was also a huge responsibility and I tried to put my best foot forward at the event,” said Singh.
Competing with 28 other participants from across the globe, Singh recalls that it was a great experience to interact with so many people coming from varied backgrounds and cultures.
“There were contestants who only spoke in their native language but somehow communication was never a problem. This is when one realises that emotions speak louder than words. In fact we did become very good friends and the only time we did compete was when on the stage,” she recalls.
The pageant held from September 17 to September 22 comprised of seven rounds which included the introduction, different photo shoots, personal interview, cultural exchange and talent round.
“There was also a national costume round for which I depicted the sacred Ganga. In my blue and white ensemble I tried portraying the purity and beauty of the river while the flowers and pearls depicted how we worship the river.
With minimal make up, the head to toe veil showed the soothing effect it has on us Indians,” she added.
Upon her return, Singh was also part of the jury for the Mr. & Miss India Charming Face 2019. “I was feeling nostalgic and it was also a whole new experience. Last year I was a contestant at the very same show and this time I was sitting there as a judge, an experience I cannot express in words,” Singh remarked.
Inspired by former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, Singh started her modeling career in 2017 and since then there has been no looking back. “When I was crowned as the first runner up of Mr. & Miss India Charming Face in November 2018 in Jaipur, I was on cloud nine. When I got the first chance to participate in a beauty pageant, I had no idea about this field. But gradually I have groomed myself.
For this pageant, participants are not selected on the basis of looks, height or complexion but on their confidence and ability to win hears,” said the model.
Being the only child of her parents, Singh feels she owes all her success to her mother Dr. Sheela Tiwari who has been her biggest supporter. “My mother is the one who has kept me grounded as she does not react to my achievements.
Though I know she is proud of me and it’s because of my upbringing that I have reached so far. I just remember once my mother had said that having a daughter like me is equal to 10 sons and that is what keeps me going,” said the model.
