The season of ongoing winter is likely to end by the mid-February. Meteorologists predicted there will be a rise of around one to two degrees in the next one week. The prediction is made on the basis of decreasing flow of north western winds across the State.“We cannot find any impact leading to mercury dip in any of the districts. There may be a cloudy weather on February 4. Else, the temperature will begin rising from Monday onwards. The winter is expected to end in the next one week,” Upendra Srivastava, Forecasting Officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre said.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature at Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Daltonganj was recorded as 6.0, 9.2 and 7.5 degree Celsius. Srivastava said initially the temperature will rise from 7 to 8 degrees. However, other meteorology officials said the temperature will remain below normal during the morning and night hours in the coming two or three days. But, the rise in the daytime temperature would result to a favourable atmosphere.

“Western disturbance is being formed in the north-west area. It may lead to cloudy weather. The maximum temperature may go plus two degrees above normal recorded at 10 degree Celsius in daytime,” mentioned a Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s technical staff.Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) Agromet Prof Ramesh Kumar felt there is no difference in the present and previous year’s weather.

“As always, we can hope affects of winter to remain till February. Thereafter, the summer will set in obviously,” Kumar mentioned.Sources claimed that the wind speed will remain upto six kilometres per hour. The humidity level is also expected to increase.Residents in various districts are hoping for a rise in the temperature.

Abhishek Mitra, a Class-VI  student of DeNobili School, Dhanbad said he is unable to wake early for school due to the chilly weather.“After a two month long vacation, my university is re-opening on February 2. I am planning to reach Ranchi on February 3 as it is quite cold there these days,” said a final year undergraduate student of National University of Study and Research in law (NUSRl), a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
