Changes in tenancy Acts on behest of industrialists: Sudesh Mahto

Mukesh Ranjan

AJSU Party chief Sudesh Mahto has once again rapped the Government for the amendments made in the CNT and SPT Acts and said that those were not done with the consent of the people of the State but on the behest of industrialists in order to bring profits to them.

The former Deputy Chief Minister while speaking during the open session on last day of the three day mega conference organised at Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi of his party on Sunday, also reiterated his commitment to protect the pride and culture of Adivasi-Moolwasi (locals) of this State.

“Whether any of the communities for which CNT and SPT Acts were introduced during British Rule have asked before making changes brought in itIJ No. Whether any of us demanded such changes in the two land actsIJ No. Then why the Government dared to bring such changesIJ It was done on the behest of the industrialists coming from other States for their convenience so that they could be provided land easily for putting more industries in this state,” said Mahto.

Referring to the questions asked over the party opposing the move and yet continuing with the Government as ally, Mahto said that having ideological differences with it also provides political opportunity to make voices of the masses reach out to the Government.

“It is also our duty to make them agree. It is our responsibility to make this Government aware of the repercussions of the changes brought into the two land acts,” said Mahto.

Criticising the State Government for inviting people from other States rather than ensuring jobs to the youth from Jharkhand, Mahto said that they have opened the door for outsiders. “They are publishing 1500-2000 jobs daily in papers, but actually if a local approaches the Government for a job, he is asked to fulfill several conditions with an intention to disqualify him,” Mahto said.

Mahto announced that the Party has decided to organise ‘Jan Parichay Sabha’ (Public Introduction Meeting) in 17000 villages in 100 days to make them aware of the current political and social scenario of this State.

“What is the meaning of doing politics where there is no understanding of own existence and the objectives of formation of this State,” asked the AJSU Chief. There was no meaning of such leadership which could not understand the demand of its people and could not protect their pride, culture and self respect, he added.

Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Chandra Prakash Chaudhary during his speech reiterated that the party will never tolerate any alteration in the two land acts. “The basic objective of formation of Jharkhand was that the locals must be given their rights and the Party is committed towards it,” said Chaudhary. The party was quite serious regarding the amendments done in the CNT and SPT Acts and will work wholeheartedly to fulfill the feelings of the locals of this state, he added.

Other speakers also criticized the State Government for amendments brought in the CNT and SPT Acts calling it an insult of the sacrifices given by the freedom fighters for enforcing British Government to implement the two land laws.

“Altering the land laws is a conspiracy to make people of this state homeless… if it is not opposed on time the land lords of this state will become tenants on their own land,” they said.

Earlier, Mahto was re-elected as party’s central president after his name was proposed by spokesperson Deosharan Bhagat. Two sessions were held on the second day of Mega Conference where discussion over locality and amendments brought in CNT and SPT Acts took place at large during the first session while during the second session the House discussed about Social Justice, Employment for Youth and Displacement.

The inaugural session on Friday was concluded with the proposal of amendments in the Constitution of the party which was passed with consensus of party workers and office bearers. A total of 29 proposals were passed during the Mega Conference including the demand of complete ban on liquor in the State.
