In a bid to bring transparency and Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) on a single platform, ERO Net was released in Jharkhand by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) l Khiangte here on Wednesday.

Talking to media persons, Khiangte said that the prime objective of ERO Net was to create and conserve unified electoral roll at the national level.

“The problem of multiple entries in the electoral role will be removed though ERO Net and information related to any elector could be shared between the two EROs easily. In case of transfer of any elector, all information related to him will be provided electronically to the ERO before whom he makes an application to register his name and his name could be registered easily at a new place without any postal communication,” said the CEO. Portability of Electoral Photo Identity Card will also be ensured under this arrangement, he added.

Khiangte said that ERO Net will also enable various services to external stakeholders and will also help in improving efficiency, decision making of internal stakeholders.

“The earlier facility of making online application  for registration, transfer, correction and deletion of one’s name will still be available on the website http://nvsp.in through which an applicant could online submit his or her name on it,” Khiangte.  It will also help to simplify the working of EROs and also increase their efficiency, he added.

All applications, whether submitted online or offline, will be disposed of through ERO Net and the applicants will be informed time to time regarding the processing of their applications through SMS or though e-mails through timely alert system.

“Applicants will be intimated about current status of their requests made to the Election Commission through timely alert system generated by the system itself,” Khiangte said. It will help in getting rid of the duplicate electors registered more than one place, he added.

Khiangte also said that the Election Commission of India has divided the country into six zones and Jharkhand comes under Eastern Zone – I. The queries which we will not be able to solve will be forwarded to the ECI which will take care of it,” said the CEO. Making Jharkhand as a team leader, a help desk has been established in Jharkhand where the queries of the states coming under this zone will be addressed, he added.

The CEO also said that National, State and District Contact Centres have been established on which any query could be made during office hours, besides calling on the phone number 1950.

“Districts where 1950 is presently not functional will be made available within a week or two,” he said.

Intensive training was imparted to the EROs, AEROs and Computer Operators in December 2016 and again in March this year to make it a success, said Khiangte.
