The Office of the Director of Census Operations, Jharkhand on Tuesday took another step in the direction of presenting data in a format convenient for a “layman” to study and make good use of the data collected through field work. The data can be accessed from the office’s portal.
“The data is stored in a format which is helpful for a research fellow but it was difficult for a common man to make good use of it,’ said Deputy Director Priyatosh Amist. Conventionally, the data is stored in tabular format in as many as 95 columns reflecting census figures on various attributes. Departing from the conventional format of data presentation the office has introduced new software loaded with salient features such as report and graph generation besides accessing results on other attributes.
“The new style of presentation can be used by students preparing for competitive examinations and is of immense help to unemployed people also who can use the data to discover schemes to get associated with to reap benefits,” maintained Amist. The office is organising a two-day workshop to train District Statistics Officer on the use of the software so that the end user, common man in this case, can use retrieve the data and use it judiciously.
