Every engineering aspirant dreams of qualifying Joint entrance examination and securing an admission in the premier institutes of the country like IIT, NIT etc. Proper coaching and guidance are a critical component in the preparation for these exams. Many dedicated and intelligent students from impoverished backgrounds don’t have these facilities because of poverty. CCL Ke Lal and Ladli scheme a pioneering CSR initiative of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) aims to provide wings to the dream of such meritorious students.
Seven students of this scheme qualified for IITs this year. What sets these students apart is that all of them belong to the underprivileged section of society.
Siddhanth Shekhar, who secured All India Rank 4946 (OBC Rank-821) is the child of an employee of a small private firm in Bokaro while Bittu Kumar who had All India Rank 18404 (SC -425) father was a Grocery Shop Owner who is presently unemployed. Kishan Kumar's father owns a small Namkeen shop. Aman Kumar’s Father is a farmer. Tabish Hassan is the son of a puncture mechanic. Vicky Kumar Nayak’s father expired in his childhood. His mother is a non-executive in CCL while Shubham Kumar father is a railway employee posted at Chandrapura station. All these students achieved this success due to their hard work and due to guidance and facility provided by CCL.
“After the board examination I qualified for CCL ke Lal and the coaching and guidance available here was a major factor in my success,” Siddhanth Said.
CCL launched the “CCL Ke Lal and Ladli” scheme in 2012 as a part of its CSR initiative. They select meritorious students from across the state of Jharkhand through a written examination. The selected candidates are given a free coaching facility at Ranchi. Company also provides free boarding and lodging facilities to the students. CCL undertakes the responsibility of their formal education and the selected boys and girls complete their 11th and 12th standard education from DAV Gandhinagar, a leading school in Ranchi. The major USP of this scheme is that these selected students are taught by CCL officers who themselves are IIT Alumni. Every evening after completing their office work, the executives educate these youngsters for the entrance test.
“My son was very hardworking from childhood, but because of the financial condition of my Family we would not have been able to afford coaching facilities. I am thankful to CCL for this scheme,” said Bittu Kumar’s father.
Central Coalfields Limited implements various other schemes like JSSPS, Kayakalp public school, Skill development training etc under its CSR initiatives CMD, CCL PM Prasad congratulated the students on their success and said that company is committed towards betterment of people of Jharkhand.
Director (Personnel), CCL Vinay Ranjan too congratulated the students for cracking the most prestigious examination and wished them for future success.
Jitendra Kumar, a teaching faculty echoed the voice of the teaching faculty that the students are dedicated and sincere. We only guide them and show them the proper path for preparation. “The student to teacher ratio in 10:1, because of which we can pay more attention to every student,” he further added.
The teaching faculty has passed out from the most prestigious institute i.e. IIT and got a job in Coal India and posted in CCL. After disposing of their routine work of the company, they spent their time teaching the underprivileged students voluntarily.
In addition to Jitendra Kumar, other teachers are Akhilesh Kumar, Naman Srivastava, Anubhav Khare, Om Prakash and Dev Prakash Singh.
