CCl achieves double-digit growth in production

PNS

The Central Coalfields limited (CCl) registered a growth of 11.2 per cent in coal production during the financial year 2014-15 as against a growth 4.1 per cent in 2013-14. The company produced 55.64 MT coal in 2014-15. The company’s production exceeded the 2014-15 target i.e. 55 MT. The double digit growth will continue in future, which will be unprecedented for any coal company in the country.

Notably, during the period 2009-10 to 2012-13, the company’s coal production was stagnating around 48 Million Tonnes (MT).  The company was holding inventory (coal stock) of about 16 MT (about 33 per cent of annual production) for years together and because of its age, coal stocks had indications of spontaneous heating at many places. Many ongoing projects had acute shortage of land as land owners were not giving physical possession of their land to Central Coalfields limited (CCl).  The employees were demotivated and demoralised.

The company achieved 65 % growth in Over Burden Removal (OBR) in Financial Year 2014-15. The OBR removal in 2014-15 was 97.37 Million Cubic Meter (MM3). It also witnessed a growth of 6.2 per cent in dispatch in 2014-15, reaching an all time high figure of 55.34 MT. During a span of about 2 years – i.e. 2013-15, six greenfield projects of about 40 MT capacity (to be further expanded to over 100 MT) have been commissioned, which has no parallel in the coal industry. Owing to modernisation, growth in washed coking coal production during 2013-14 was 9.6 per cent and  during 2014-15 growth was 21.4 per cent.
