A team of CBI officials has gathered documents and case files from the Jharkhand Anti-Corruption Bureau on the order of Jharkhand High Court. Sources in the CBI said that documents are related to the 34th National Games scam in Jharkhand which the CBI will now investigate as per the order of the Jharkhand High Court.
Sources in the agency said that the documents are likely to be sent to CBI headquarters in Delhi. It is yet not decided whether investigation will be done by the Jharkhand or Bihar unit. Sources said that possibility can't be ruled out if The CBI headquarters itself takes up this case.
The CBI is likely to issue a notification to lodge the case by next week. Jharkhand High Court ordered the CBI to investigate this scam as the court found the investigation by the ACB unsatisfactory. The court asked ACB to hand over the investigation of this case to the CBI. It ordered the CBI to investigate the role of police officials who botched up investigations.
The double bench of Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad gave this order on three PILs filed by Sushil Kumar Singh Mantu, Surya Singh Besra of Jharkhand Against Corruption.
The 34th National Games was held from 12 February to 26 February in 2011. It was originally scheduled in 2007.
Bholanath Singh, General secretary of the Jharkhand Wrestlers Association had lodged a complaint about alleged corruption. The ACB lodged an FIR 49/2010 and filed two charge sheets. It stated that Rs 28.38 crore were embezzled in the name of purchasing sports equipment.
The High Court stated that several influential bureaucrats were part of the national games organizing committee hence the ACB can't investigate this case properly.
