Cancer awareness and health camp for police personnel

PNS

In a significant step toward preventive healthcare and awareness, Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the East Singhbhum Police, successfully conducted a Cervical and Breast Cancer Awareness Program and Health Camp at the Police Line. The initiative, held under the guidance of Dr. Astha Raman, KMC Manipal alumna and spouse of SSP East Singhbhum, aimed to bring life-saving awareness and health screenings to police personnel often burdened by high-stress and demanding routines.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of nearly 100 police personnel in the awareness session, while the health camp served over 230 individuals with free health screenings and medical consultations. The MTMC outreach team, comprising experienced doctors, optometrists, lab technicians, and support staff, ensured the smooth execution of the program.

The awareness sessions, led by Dr. Ojasvi Shanker, Associate Professor at MTMC, and Dr. Arunima Verma, Chief Medical Superintendent and HOD Surgery at Tata Motors Hospital, highlighted the risk factors, symptoms, and prevention methods of cervical and breast cancers. Emphasis was laid on HPV vaccination, regular screenings like Pap smears and VIA, and breast self-examinations. The interactive discussions encouraged police personnel to voice their queries and concerns in an open and informative setting.

The on-site health camp featured a comprehensive diagnostic lineup including blood pressure checks, BMI assessments, random blood sugar tests, and hemoglobin estimation. Participants received personalized consultations, and those showing abnormal indicators were referred to advanced healthcare centers for further diagnosis and treatment.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal (IPS), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, praised MTMC for extending preventive healthcare to the police force. Dr. Vinita Singh, General Manager – Medical Services, TMH, attended as the Guest of Honor, while Kumar Shivashish (IPS), SP City, stressed the importance of early detection and community-wide dissemination of accurate health information.
