Campaign to recruit women in State police

PNS

As Jharkhand Police is gearing up to recruit women personnel in large numbers, officials are planning proper awareness programmes at the post office level as done in case of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). According to the senior police officials, extensive brainstorming also needs to be done before starting the process of recruitment for women personnel providing suitable atmosphere for work without affecting their family life after they get married.

“We will put it in media focusing exclusively on the 33 per cent reservation for women so that more and more women get encouraged to join the police,” said ADG (CID) SN Pradhan. He however, asserted that rework will also have to be done, providing them proper infrastructure and streamlining the nature of duties for them. “The recruitment process also has to be done in such a manner that all of them would be fit to carry out any sort of challenge while carrying out their duties,” Pradhan added. Nature of training could not be changed for the women personnel but, some of the peculiar needs will definitely be care of, he said.

Officials are also of the view that extensive brainstorming has to be done before starting the process of recruitment so that the women personnel could be provided suitable atmosphere for work without affecting their family-life once they get married. “The department will have to do little more than just recruiting them to the police force, providing them suitable working hours, developing special barracks, , making proper arrangement also for their children if one is married,” said ADG JAP KN Chaubey. Proper steps needs to be taken as police duty, considered to a bit tough for women, remain in it even after getting married and having kids without running away from their duties, said Chaubey.

Chaubey said, “Since the nature of job is difficult, the department will have to devise ways and means so that they remain in the services.” A comprehensive service structure focusing on their day to day requirement also has to be formulated in the process, Chaubey added. “It has to be taken care that their duties are structured in such a way that their commitment towards their families does not get hampered as the most difficult part for a women personnel is making adjustment with the family and duties,” Chaubey added. According to Chuabey, recruitments will lead to empowerment as well as sensitisation of women in the police department.
