Now, it may cost heavily to a person misbehaving with traffic personnel after they get interrupted for violating traffic rules in the State Capital. To deal with the increasing instances of misbehaviour and manhandling during the special drive launched by Traffic Police, traffic personnel have been provided button cameras for using it as a tool to prosecute anybody who tried to misbehave with them.

Traffic Police, coming into action swiftly after High Court’s order to take steps to check rising road accidents in the State Capital, had launched special drive against the erring bikers who did not wear helmets or carry proper credentials with them.

“It will be used on daily basis by the traffic personnel so that people may not make allegations on them anymore. The idea is to put both the parties under scanner as several complaints were coming to us of people misbehaving with the traffic personnel when they were interrupted for violating traffic rules,” said the Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh. Presently, 100 button cameras will be made available to the traffic personnel to be distributed on 41 points identified by the department all over the State Capital, he added.

“Besides that, it could also work as a tool against the persons who misbehave or manhandle with the policemen when they are stopped for not adhering to the traffic rules,” said the Traffic SP. With the help of video footage captured though the camera fitted on uniform of the traffic personnel, action could be taken against the erring person who might also get prosecuted for the act, he added.

A short training session was organized for the traffic personnel on Sunday to operate those cameras where they were also told how to deal with such persons. Video footage of at least 3 hours could be recorded continuously though these cameras, he added.

The camera is fitted with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which could be connected through Wi-Fi and played on an android phone after configuring it with the DVR. The SP said that the camera will enable traffic personnel to show it to the erring person on their android phone and could also be passed on to the seniors officers.

“Android phones for traffic personnel have already been purchased while the App has been downloaded on the phones of those personnel who already had Android phones with them, said Ranjan. Besides that e-challan device have also been purchased which will be handed over the traffic personnel soon after configuring them, he added.

“It will increase transparency in the department though which a track could be kept on the people violating traffic rules for the first time or second time so that action could be taken against them accordingly,” said the Traffic SP.
