SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant has signed an MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) with ISKCON to combat the menace of anaemia & malnutrition in Bokaro district. The MOA was signed on 2nd November at Ispat Bhavan between the two sides in presence of Executive Director (P&A) Samir Swarup, CMO Dr Pankaj Sharma and other senior officials of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and representatives of ISKCON. The MOA was signed by DGM (CSR) CRK Sudhanshu on behalf of BSL and Jagannath Das, Head of ISKCON Bokaro. Under this MOA, Bokaro Steel Plant through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) will provide one time monetary aid to the tune of Rupees Sixty Eight Lakh to ISKCON for setting-up a base kitchen with associated infrastructure at village Chakuliya near Chas College and a vehicle for transportation of meals to the beneficiaries.
ISKCON is likely to complete setting-up of the base kitchen and associated infrastructure within this financial year. After that, initially 500 meals per day will be provided to the beneficiaries in the anaemia & malnutrition affected areas/ localities of Bokaro district through ISKCON. For identification of the target areas/ localities, BSL-CSR is taking help of district administration. Simultaneously, the Mobile Medical Unit run by BSL under its CSR through Piramal Health, will also help in screening/ identification of anaemia affected people in the peripheral villages of Bokaro.
While BSL will be funding this drive against anaemia &malnutrition, ISKCON will handle the day to day operations / functioning of the kitchen as well as distribution of meals to the beneficiaries. Notably, ISKCON has expertise in running such projects and they already have several such kitchen and meal distribution set-ups in various parts of the country.
Sharing information COC BSL MK Dhan added that this initiative of Bokaro Steel Plant is therefore expected to bring significant relief to the affected people in Bokaro district.
