In a bizarre incident, a woman fled with her lover while returning from her marriage under Dhurwa Police Station in Ranchi District on Monday.

Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Ranjan Barwar, said that a marriage procession was returning from Nagri to Khunti after solemnising marriage of bride Anjali Toppo (24) resident of Labed village under Nagri Police Station and groom Bandan Oraon (26) resident of Khunti District. Both the bride and groom were in a car going to groom’s home in Khunti.

The DSP said that an unidentified motorbike rider came before the running car and stopped it just opposite the ongoing construction site of Jharkhand High Court. Then he called the groom to come down the car, and then the bride came down from the car and sat on motorbike and fled from the spot.

Barwar further revealed that the boy, who took away the bride, Asim Minz, resident of Rani Khatanga under Itki Police Station, along with Toppo surrendered at Itki Police Station where relatives of Oraon and Minz gathered and with their mutual understanding it was decided that when Toppo wants to live with Minz then Oraon’s family had no objection. It is believed that the girl had some relationship with the boy. The groom’s family did not have any problem with the issue as the bride was adult so she can take her decision, he added.

“What is interesting is that the marriage of Anjali and Badhan also was a love marriage. The bride was working as labourer, while the groom was stone mason. During their work a relationship developed between them and they decided to marry with each other,” said Barwar.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a woman jumped into Dhurwa Dam in the morning on Sunday under Dhurwa Police Station in Ranchi District.

Informing about the incident Barwar said that a woman, Mina Yadav resident of Chutia area under Chutia Police Station in Ranchi jumped in to Dhurwa Dam but the people who were present at that time saved her and informed the Dhurwa Police Station.

“The Police team reached the spot bought the woman at the Police Station and tried to know the reason of her jumping into the dam. As she was mentally disturbed she did not say anything clearly and became angry during enquiry but she informed that she was resident of Chutiya area and living with her mother and two children. She was working as domestic helper,” said Barwar.
