The residents of Boka Pahari under Rajapur Colliery under Jharia block about 15 kms from district headquarter of Dhanbad are forced to spent sleepless night.
They are having distressing experience after poisonous gas and thick smoke with high blazes started coming out followed by a huge blast to excavate coal from the colliery on Thursday.
Poisonous gas with thick smoke started emitting with fire in the morning following a blast on Thursday, said Md Sulaman a local resident.
"More than 200 families are residing at Bokapahari are in fear. Our families especially kids are feeling suffocation after eruption of poisonous gas and thick smoke which still emitting and we are forced to spent sleepless night", added Sulaman.
"We ten families residing here are directly affected by the incident and forced to shift elsewhere" said Ramjatan Mandal.
later on Friday BCCl officials visited the place and began to fill the dip by ahs and soil.
Notably, underground fires raging since over 90 years are a stern threat for Jharia. With increasing cases of land subsidence followed by casualities and gas leakage being felt by residents of Boka pahari each day, eviction and rehabilitation remains the only choice for which the residents are still not ready to leave after the eviction drive conducted by BCCl.
According to a recent report of BCCl more than 68 thousand families are to be shifted from the fire zone of Jharia and of them 7100 families who are residing in the most dangerous zone need immediate rehabilitation.
