The Centre’s announcement to include caste data in the Census was welcomed by State BJP leaders.

BJP leader and former CM Raghuvar Das welcoming the decision said that the central government decision to conduct caste census is a historic and visionary step taken by the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision will provide special support in providing the benefits of schemes to every section of the country on the basis of its actual social and economic status.

The BJP leader said, this will strengthen social justice. Along with this, the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas will be further strengthened. This step is not just a collection of data, but a strong effort towards ensuring the identification and participation of crores of people who were ignored for years. Heartfelt thanks to the Modi government for this bold and public welfare decision.

BJP State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi said that the decision of the Central Government to conduct caste census across India in the cabinet today is a commendable step. He said that now there will be talk of real social justice, not vote bank.

He further said that for decades, the Congress and other opposition parties have been using caste census only as an election weapon on this issue. Now caste census has become the need of the hour. The time has come to abandon the piecemeal, inconsistent and opaque state-level census and adopt a uniform, reliable and fact-based caste census for the entire country. Thanks to the respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for approving the caste census, taking a step towards social justice in the true sense!

The cabinet committee of political affairs (CCPA) on Wednesday decided that a caste-based enumeration will be part of the upcoming decadal census, a decision hailed by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) partners in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a step that would help in drafting "equitable and targeted" policies.

The announcement, which comes ahead of the Bihar assembly polls, was on top of the Opposition’s agenda that has been pushing for a caste census in an effort to counter its appeal and break the rainbow coalition of Hindus, across classes, that forms the bulk of the BJP’s support base.
