BJP slams govt on misleading people on ‘1932 Khaitan’ policy

PNS

BJP Legislature Party leader Babulal Marandi on Monday once again targeted the Hemant Soren government over misleading people on 1932 Khatian policy. On Sunday Governor Ramesh Bais returned the ‘1932 Khatian Bill’ back to the government for reconsideration, underlining that the government needs to review the legality of the bill and frame it as per the constitutional norms and court rulings.

The state government at a special session on November 11, 2022, had passed the “Jharkhand definition of local persons and for extending the consequential, social, cultural and other benefits to such local persons Bill, 2022”, popularly known as the 1932 Khatiyan Bill.

The BJP leader targeting the Soren government said that BJP never opposed the Khatian-based local policy of 1932, but why is the Hemant government firing bullets from gun on other's shoulder. He said that Hemant Soren had toppled Arjun Munda's government by withdrawing support in the name of Khatian based local and planning policy of 1932. Then he was the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. He said that Hemant Soren will have to answer that after being the Chief Minister of the state for the first time for 18 months, why did not he formulate the local policy and planning policy. At that time UPA was ruling both the country and the state. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, why didn't Hemant Soren remember about the 9th schedule then?

Babulal Marandi said that Hemant Soren is fooling the people of Jharkhand. BJP will not allow such a shop of politics to run. Politics is not run by cleverness but by honesty. Hemant Soren is not being honest towards the people of the state. The state government has the full right to make policy. The Hemant government should solve the questions raised by the governor regarding the local policy. The government should soon give local and planning policy to the people of the state.

As per the bill, only those who have their, or names of their ancestors, in the Khatiyan (land records) of 1932 or before will be considered as a local inhabitant of Jharkhand and only they would be entitled to grade 3 and 4 jobs in the state.

However, Chief Minister Soren disappointed over Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais asking to review the legality of 1932 Khatian-based Local Policy Bill-2022, he said that things will not happen according to the governor; instead things will happen according to what the government wants in this state.

The Governor has rejected the bill when Chief Minister Soren is on tour to address a public meeting as part of his ‘Khatiani Johar Yatra’.
