BJP plans anti-Prez Rule stir

With no sight of polls in the near future, the State BJP plans to intensify its stir against President’s Rule. The party will launch an elaborate campaign — Jan Jagaran Abhiyan — across the State from June 5.

State party president Ravindra Rai said it will awaken the masses and make them aware of the “pathetic” condition of Jharkhand under President’s Rule.

The State BJP also requested the Central leadership to seek an appointment with President Pranab Mukherjee, so a delegation can meet him before June 15. The party would apprise the President of Jharkhand’s political situation and request him for earliest dissolution of Assembly so elections can be conducted, he added.

Rai was addressing mediapersons on Friday after the first meeting of the State BJP working committee since announcement of new office-bearers.

“Administrative failure to address common issues of the people has been ignored in President’s Rule. Raj Bhavan has virtually stopped listening to the desperate pleas of the common man and has become totally insensitive. It appears as if President’s Rule is there to accomplish Congress’ tasks, ignoring the needs and aspirations of people,” Rai said.

“In fact, Raj Bhavan has announced that it has become deaf and dumb as far as the matter of dissolution of Assembly is concerned. It is, perhaps, their working plan to keep the State under President’s Rule till Congress sets up its base here,” he added.

The State BJP chief pointed towards the pathetic condition of basic amenities like electricity and water. “The whole State is under threat from dozens of criminal groups. Crime has become a business in several districts. We have been frequently witnessing cases of murder, extortion and killing of innocent people in Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, lohardaga and Chatra — districts adjacent to the State capital. And Raj Bhavan makes false claims of improvement in law & order,” Rai said.

He also raised the issue of deletion of voters’ names from the electoral roll. “In Ranchi, only 2.75 lakh voters’ names are being deleted. Voting is a basic right of a citizen. So revision of electoral roll should be done properly. Deadlines must be extended because it’s an ongoing process,” Rai added.

The Jharkhand unit will hold its executive committee meeting in Dhanbad on June 22-23, where scores of issues — including the political situation of the State — will be discussed.

Meanwhile, JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya on Friday said his party was all set for elections and would not forge any alliance with the Congress. Ironically, he added that they (JMM MlAs) did not want dissolution of Assembly.
