BJP goes democratic in choosing candidates

The winds of change have started blowing, perhaps in the most positive direction as ever in the State, which scarcely gets political leaders by way of democratic selection.

The BJP, this time, has championed the cause of workers by introducing ‘Raishumari’ (referendum) by over 10,000 workers and officials across the State to choose 81 candidates for Assembly polls on Tuesday.

The State unit of the party will conduct the ‘Raishumari’ programme in an organised manner across Jharkhand on Tuesday.

As per the plan approved by State in-charge Trivendra Singh Rawat, State unit president Ravindra Rai, former CM arjun Munda, national vice-president Raguwar Das and others the ‘Raishumari’ will take place in all 14 district headquarters in the State, where party members will cast their preferences for their respective assembly constituencies in three hours time.

The party-men who will give their preferences of three names in a printed slip for a particular constituency include national in-charge of the State, state in-charge, State president, former state president, district president, district morcha president, block president, former district president, former block president, MP, former MP, MlA, former MlA, block head, district board chairperson, former district board chairperson, municipal council official both former and incumbent and all others party members who have been contributing to the working of the party.

According to senior BJP officials all these persons will give their preferences in a printed slip that has been distributed to them.

The preferences will be sealed in different boxes for different assembly constituencies and will be brought to the state headquarters to be analysed by the election committee.

On an average around 150 workers and party officials will give their choice of candidates from each constituency.

“The party is adopting a democratic and transparent process to select the candidates. We have tried to include maximum participation of party workers in the exercise. And, this means that around 10,000 to 12,000 party-men will vote for their preferred candidates to be fielded in the upcoming polls by the party,” said state BJP president Ravindra Rai.

“The sealed boxes will be opened at the party headquarters and the the election committee will then decide on the candidate to be finalized,” he added.

State BJP in-Charge Trivendra Singh Rawat, who chaired a marathon meeting with core committee members of the State on Sunday, has already announced that the prime focus of the party is to register an emphatic win in the Assembly polls.

The party will not compromise on the “winning” factor and the factors or caste, gender, community would not at all be considered, he said.

The State BJP unit is already in a euphoric mood after party’s historic win in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

It is expecting a landslide victory in Jharkhand too with the announcement that the party will fight the Assembly polls led by none other than Narendra Modi.
