Students of the Jamshedpur Women's College on Tuesday protested against the college demanding a solution for the BBA degree mess.
More than 150 students staged a demonstration at the Jamshedpur Women's College campus protesting against the principal of the college Sumita Mukherjee. Their complaint is that students of BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) would get a BCom degree instead of BBA. They complained that they feel cheated.
Not only BBA but other vocational courses are running in a mess.Though the principal had assured the students that she would take step to solve the issue but students after meeting the Kolhan University vice-chancellor, RPP Singh found out that the college should have never printed 'BBA' on the admission prospectus which created the whole confusion.
The students on Monday also staged a demonstrationat Bistupur police station seeking action. Students had also visited the university office in Chaibasa on Saturday where the VC clarified that it is only vocational degrees with BA, BSc and BCom that the university can provide. For technical courses, the university or the college will have to take the approval of AICTE following certain norms.
The students who sat on the agitation for five hours later visited the Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was in the city on Tuesday. They said, the college, despite having given them admission for BBA and BCA courses, was giving them BCom degree which was dismaying.
“The college administration had granted us admission in professional courses. But now we are being given normal commerce degree. This is cheating as the college cannot give us a different degree,” said one of the students. Importantly, there are around 500 BBA and BCA students in Jamshedpur Women’s College.
