PNS

Strike call given by the bankers across the country saw its ramifications in the State as well when over 250 officials and employees of various banks under the United Forum of Bank Union staged dharna near Bank of India zonal office besides several protests happened across the city on Tuesday.

The one-day call badly impacted financial services and most of the Government owned bank branches remained locked affecting its ATM services. In this few ATMs of the nationalised banks and private banks remained the only source of cash for the people throughout the day.

“The Government should consider the contribution of the banks in building country’s economy. Even then it is going ahead with forceful mergers of the nationalised banks and their privatization, which we oppose vehemently. As far as the arguments about growing NPA are concerned, it is the result of wrong polices of the Government which is also affecting financial health of the banks,” said Sunil lakra, general secretary of the Union.

The association said the token shutdown was  done against the anti-people policy.
